WHAT ARE BIOMARKERS?

What are Biomarkers?

Biomarkers (short for biological markers) are characteristics of biological processes within the body that you can objectively measure.

The term Biomarkers is broad and includes information acquired from all sorts of readings and testing. Essentially, Biomarkers are used to capture a snapshot at any given time of what is happening within the body in order to gain an understanding into whether there are normal or abnormal processes taking place.

Examples of Biomarkers?

Typical examples of Biomarker testing include:

  • Blood Pressure

  • Heart Rate

  • Laboratory tests of blood and other tissue

  • Genetic testing

  • Imaging such as x-rays, CAT scans and other scans

Some of these Biomarkers – such as heart rate and blood pressure - can be individually tracked by simply wearing one of the many advanced wearable tracking technologies currently available.

Laboratory testing of Biomarkers, on the other hand, require doctors and other wellness professionals to interpret the results.

Why is tracking Biomarkers important?

Tracking your personal Biomarkers is critical in order to build an accurate picture of what is “normal” for you. It gives you a deeper insight into your current state of health and how your lifestyle, environment and genetics may be impacting your overall health and lifespan.

By working with a health professional and tracking your Biomarkers over time, you can adopt a personalised plan and use evidence-based interventions to improve your overall sense of vitality, performance and longevity.

  • Cardiovascular Health

  • Micronutrient and long term vitamin levels

  • Proteins

  • Longevity testing

  • Genetic analysis

  • Microbiome mapping

Learning more about your individual Biomarkers is an important part of Biohacking. It allows you to better understand your individual body’s processes so you can fine-tune your lifestyle in order to take control of your health!
